​​​​​Introduction

Why write this paper at this time? I have considered Satan’s original lie for some time and have had some queries related to it. Now that we are in a time when we are constantly being lied to by politicians and world leaders, the mainstream and alternative media, big corporations, big pharma and big tech, this would seem to be the appropriate point in time at which to eschew Satan and his demonic and human henchmen. While this high-level deception is nothing new, it seems to me to be more all-pervasive now than ever before and is being exposed to us all as normal behaviour. The telling of lies, half-truths and the general demonstration of deceitful  behaviour would seem to be the hallmark of this unheavenly brood. The old adage of ‘Q - How can you tell if a politician is lying? A – His lips are moving.’ was never more evidently true than it is today.
 

The Original Lie

Let us make a start by examining Satan’s original lie as recorded in scripture. Arguably the most definitive statement of Satan being a liar (as well as a murderer) was from Christ’s own lips in talking to the Pharisees. This also indicts the Pharisees as Satan’s offspring and thereby as liars also (we will come to the question of Satan’s henchmen and their traits a little later in this paper):

44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8 KJV)

The wording would indicate that Satan was the inventor of the lie and his natural instinct is to tell lies, being unable to speak the truth. We also have confirmation in Paul’s first letter to Timothy that the original sin was caused by the deception of Satan:

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. (1 Timothy 2 KJV)

So having got the definitive view on the subject from Christ Himself, together with the apostle Paul, let us now go back and examine that first recorded lie:

2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden,
3 but of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.
4 And the serpent said to the woman, Dying you shall not die,
5 for God knows that in the day you eat of it, even your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil. (Genesis 3 GLT)

So, we have two potential instances of Satan’s first lies as told to the naïve Eve. I have had something of a dichotomy with the first prospective lie when Satan tells her that she will not get old and die if she eats of the forbidden fruit. The argument against this being a lie is that no angel, Satan included, had previously ever witnessed God causing any of His created humans to die, let alone His only human son. So perhaps Satan may well have been a little shocked at God’s warning to Adam and Eve. However, Satan would also have known full well that God was always as good as His Word and would not have laid down such a harsh punishment unless He really meant to carry it out. Given Christ’s statement to the Pharisees, I think we have little choice but to accept that Satan knew that God would deliver on this promise.

What of Satan’s second prospective lie to Eve, of Adam and Eve having their eyes opened etc? Well, this would appear to have been the truth although I think that Satan was playing Eve to persuade her of the ‘benefits’ of taking the fruit. So we see here that even Satan’s telling the truth is with ill intent. Even today the most compelling lies are those that contain something of the truth in them to make them all the more believable or compelling:

22 And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever --
23 therefore Jehovah God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden the Cherubim, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. (Genesis 3 ASV)

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou return. (Genesis 3 KJV)

We also see in the last three verses that God was keeping His promise to facilitate Adam's and Eve's dying.
 

Satan’s Deceptive Legacy

What is Satan’s purpose going forward? It is to deceive as many of those of mankind as he can so as to blind them to God’s Word and to follow his ways of the world in rebellion against the Father of us all:

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (2 Corinthians 4 KJV)

In the Old Testament, Satan’s deceiving ways were heavily aimed at God’s people through false prophets.

6 They have seen falsehood and lying divination, that say, Jehovah saith; but Jehovah hath not sent them: and they have made men to hope that the word would be confirmed.
7 Have ye not seen a false vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, in that ye say, Jehovah saith; albeit I have not spoken?
8 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because ye have spoken falsehood, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord Jehovah.
9 And my hand shall be against the prophets that see false visions, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the council of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah.
10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there is no peace; and when one buildeth up a wall, behold, they daub it with untempered [mortar]: (Ezekiel 13 ASV)

As we can see, things have not changed in any way going into the 1st and 21st centuries:

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. (2 Peter 2 KJV)

The original deception by Satan is carried through to the New Testament by Paul in his second letter to the congregation at Corinth. Here he warns that even the 1NC Saints and, indeed all Christians throughout history and today in the end-times, will need to be on their guard against Satan’s henchmen deceiving through the preaching of a false doctrine. So here we are being told of the danger of false Christian churches:

3 But I fear lest by any means, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your thoughts should be corrupted from the purity which [is due] to Christ.
4 For if, indeed, the [one] coming proclaims another Jesus, whom we have not proclaimed, or [if] you receive another spirit which you have not received, or another gospel which you never accepted, you might well endure [these]. (2 Corinthians 11 GLT)

13 For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (2 Corinthians 11 KJV)

And confirmation in the Gospels:

23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here [is] Christ, or there; believe [it] not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Matthew 24 KJV)

21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here [is] Christ; or, lo, [he is] there; believe [him] not:
22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if [it were] possible, even the elect. (Mark 13 KJV)

Again, in his letter to the congregation at Ephesus, Paul tells us to protect ourselves with the truth to fight Satan’s deceptions. He also confirms that all good Christians will need to stand firm against all of Satan’s henchmen be they demons or evil human regimes and corporations:

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (Ephesians 6 KJV)

And in his second letter to Timothy:

13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. (2 Timothy 3 KJV)

And, just in case of doubt, we are facing a massive task here on Earth to withstand the full force of the demonic horde. I think this, once again, underwrites my personal battles with Satan thus far (Personal Heavenly Wars):

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12 KJV)

Little does Satan seem to realise that God is using his followers’ lies to good effect. Those that prefer to believe the convenient lie will get their just rewards; God is effectively using Satan as an advocate to identify the unrighteous:

9 [even he], whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie: (2 Thessalonians 2 ASV)

One verse, from the Gospel of Matthew that I particularly like, tells us that the (inconvenient) truth is simple. A ‘yes’ or ‘no’ will suffice; anything more will be a fabricated deception:

37 But let your word be Yes, yes; No, no. For the excess of these is from evil. (Matthew 5 GLT)
 

Satan’s Earthly Organisations

The first organisations to come under fire in the scriptures for lying are the churches, both Jewish in the 1st century and Christian in the two millennia to follow:

9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. (Revelation 3 KJV)

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (Matthew 7 KJV)

And we cannot say that we were not warned of false prophets by God way back when He gave Moses the Law for His people to follow:

1 If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams rises among you, and gives you a sign or a wonder,
2 and the sign or the wonder which he spoke to you occurs, saying, Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us serve them,
3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams. For Jehovah your God [is] testing you, to know if you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 13 GLT)

This warning was to be reiterated later on by God’s true prophets to the Jewish nation but with the greater meaning for today’s churches:

25 I have heard what the prophets said, [those] who prophesy lies in My name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
26 How long is [this] there in the heart of the prophets, the prophets of lies; yea, the prophets of the deceit of their own heart?
27 [They] plot to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams which they tell, each one to his neighbor, even as their fathers have forgotten My name for Baal. (Jeremiah 23 GLT)

As a prime example, I have previously written on the misdeeds of the Roman Catholic church in changing scripture to match their false trinitarian doctrine that makes God a greater mystery than He is (Mysteries). This places the catholic priesthood between God and His people so that the RC hierarchy can continue to lie to the congregation to keep them faithful to the church rather than God. I cannot think of a worse deception than tampering with God’s Word to keep the Church empowered over God’s people. Then we have the deceit of political and military leaders. Daniel prophesied one such:

25 And also through his skill he will make deceit succeed in his land. And he will lift himself up in his heart, and be at ease; he shall destroy many. He shall also stand up against the Ruler of rulers, but he shall be shattered without a hand. (Daniel 8 GLT)

The LWs understand this leader to be the Roman ruler Antiochus IV ([157] Daniel 8: The ram the goat and the 2300 evenings and mornings). There is an end-times character also to be associated with this scripture, but his name will remain sealed up until the appropriate time:

4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, [even] to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. (Daniel 12 KJV)

The Book of Revelation gives much symbolism to Satan’s deceptions in the end times. According to the present LW understanding ([151] Revelation Decoded) the beast of Revelation 13:11 represents this world’s deep state organisations who are running world affairs to their own particular agendas. They have been lying to the masses through their government agencies for some time now:

11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by [the means of] those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. (Revelation 13 KJV)

At least we have the comfort of knowing that God will give the liars within these government organisations their just deserts at the end of the day:

20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. (Revelation 19 KJV)

To try to provide relatively recent items of news about the lack of honesty in the public arena, I scoured the internet looking for what appeared to me to be a realistic look at past and present commentary on the subject. Needless to say, Google was not my search engine of choice since I wanted a relatively unbiased and unadulterated view! Nonetheless I cannot necessarily verify the voracity of any of the following items but I think they give a picture of what many in the ranks of Jo Public think of those in power today both politically and commercially.

Then we have the catch-all of ‘fake news’ where the media (mainstream, alternative and Big Tech) invent or manipulate their message to the people based on their own agendas rather than anything remotely resembling the truth. Whilst not a new phenomenon, like most of the above examples, this is now a term in our day-to-day parlance and is very much something that we are having to live with whenever we see a news item, be it on traditional media or on the internet or social media sites. The fake news on both sides of the argument was why I decided to write my Covid-19 paper in the first place. Synopsis

There is no doubt in my mind, and in that of any thinking feeling human being, that we are all swimming in a sea against a powerful tide of lies and half-truths that make the truth of any situation in this world next to impossible to ascertain. We can confirm that the father of the lie is Satan and his original lie set the scene for mankind and the angels for the next six millennia right down to the current times.

But Satan is not on his own. He has culled an army of the worst dregs of angelic and human society to effect his ‘plan’ and we can see this in world events past and present. All of this is prophesied in the Bible, so the true believer should not fear what is going on since this should be what is expected and he will be protected by the forces for good. The danger, however, is that one must be on one’s guard at all times against the apparently well-meaning but disguised deception that might weaken one’s faith in Christ’s saving grace (check out my Personal Heavenly Wars paper).
